My Experience with Journalism

It has been 2 years ago when I visited Kompas-Gramedia building at South Palmerah, Jakarta for the first time. I went to that building to attend workshop of journalism which it was presented by “Warta Kota Muda”, a teenager rubric on Sunday in Warta Kota daily newspaper. I was so glad that I can get some knowledge about journalism and photograph at the workshop. That event was interesting and after that, I’m so interested with Journalism world. So, I have some dreams that in the future I want to be a Journalist and I write many articles for mass media.

My first experience was visited publishing building when I had a chance for come to Kompas Gramedia Building. I was very pleased that I can visit that building. I think the building of media office was attractive for me but I felt disappointed when I didn’t enter the publishing room, because newspaper printing production is only done at night. So, we were prohibited to enter that room. Okay that’s no problem, I was still happy.

In December 2009, I had my first chance with my schoolmates to write an article for a newspaper. My school, SMAN 13 Jakarta held an event “Declaration of Against Corruption”. After the event, we got an offer to write in Kompas Muda, (teenager rubric) in Kompas newspaper. Finaly, we wrote about “Declaration Against Corruption” and my friends, Tiwi drew a comic with anti corruption theme for Kompas Muda. Our project in “Kompas Muda” was successful and it was published on Friday, 11^th December 2010.

After Kompas Muda, there were unexpected thing for me; I had a project again in media. At the time, I had a chance to be a school journalist for Hai Magazine to write articles about senior high school students’ lifestyle and others to “My School Page” rubric

A Journalist from Hai Magazine, Rahmat Budiman (Mate) gave me an opportunity to join school Journalist. Mate is one of alumni SMAN 13 Jakarta. I was so happy to hear that I would write articles once every month for Hai Magazine. I got many friends and experiences after joined “My School Page” Hai as one of the crew or school journalist. At this time, I decide to stop being the crew because I am in twelfth grade now.

Other experience that I got from journalistic was when I made an Electronic-Paper (E-Paper) Magazine, which it called Tabasco Magazine. I made it with my schoolmates (again), and in that project, I become the Editor In Chief of Tabasco Magazine. Tabasco’s name is the acronym of “Teenage Art Breakthrough and Social Company”. The magazine was concern to discuss and write about surrounding teenage life. We distributed the magazine was not based on printable version, but we used Internet via E-Paper. Alhamdulillah, we have launched that magazine for first edition in April 2010, but the project wouldn’t be continued until this time, we just made the first edition.

So, there are a lot of experiences that make me so interested about writing and journalism world. At this time, I have a dream to be a successful journalist. I want to continue my studies in department of International Relations or Communication, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, after that working as a journalist at international and politics desk in national newspaper or magazine. I also have a dream to be media entrepreneur in the future.
